Welcome to Steven Smith's Personal Fundraising Page!
Officer Steven Smith began his career with the City of Rensselaer Police Department in 2004 after graduating from the Zone 5 Regional Law Enforcement Training Center in Troy, NY. He was assigned as a patrol officer.
In June of 2008, Smith was presented with the opportunity to work for the City of Albany Police Department. He was hired by the city as a lateral transfer and sworn in on June 6, 2008. He worked as a patrol officer out of the Department’s Center Station.
In April of 2012, Officer Smith switched gears and became the department’s public information officer (PIO), working directly with the chief and the command staff on everything from media relations and community events to social media and community notification.
Smith has been instrumental in developing relationships with the local print and TV news media, implementing and maintaining the department’s social media platforms, advertising and participating in many police-community events and assisting with the recruitment of new officers.
In December 2017, Smith led the effort to launch Capital Region Crime Stoppers - a nonprofit program that allows residents to submit anonymous information to the police, and in cases where a tip leads to an arrest, receive a cash reward.
Smith graduated from Nyack College in May 2014 with a bachelor’s degree in organizational management. He is presently pursuing a master’s degree in public administration from Marist College.
Steve and his wife, Liz Benjamin, live locally. They enjoy spending time with their 10–year-old son, Jacob, and petit Golden Doodle, Henry.
