Welcome to My Personal Page
Thanks for visiting my page for this year's CycleAbility Challenge.
This year’s ride was a great success! This is thanks to our many donors and sponsors, who made it a financial success and mother nature for providing excellent riding weather!
This year with only 8 riders, we raised over $41,000 for Special Olympics programs. Importantly, as a donor myself, we want to be sure that the donor’s hard earned money is going directly to programs for the athletes and not “ride expenses”. The ride expenses this year were kept to $1,900 which was more than covered by the event sponsorship. (Thank you sponsors!) The net result is that 100% of your donation, along with the donations of many others, will all go toward programs for the athletes! Again, I really appreciate your support of our effort for Special Olympics.
We returned to Goldens Bridge late Sunday afternoon exhausted as you would expect, but thankful that all aspects of the weekend went smoothly. The weather cooperated by providing no precipitation and giving us plenty of cloud cover. Most of us even needed to wear a wind breaker on Sunday. Even with Mother Nature helping us out, there were several parts of my body that could have been more cooperative and I was reminded that more training would have been helpful before subjecting myself to the abuse taken over the weekend! (You’d think I would learn after doing this for 13 years!)
This year we stayed in an old farm house in Copake, New York. Not too far from Great Barrington, CT. One of my high school buddies that rides with Rebecca's Riders, donated his weekend home, helping us to reduce the cost of the ride. We really had a terrific time. His man cave consists of a fully stocked bar in the basement with a newly built tiered media room for watching your favorite cycling movies! We grilled on the BBQ and ate outside before moving to the fire pit for a few hours of storytelling while "self-medicating" our soreness away with various brands of elixir.
The ride will take place again, next September, so think about joining us on the ride! It’s a great experience and it is something that you will never forget! The personal satisfaction of completing the ride along with knowing how much the athletes appreciate what ride does for them, is truly priceless.
If you haven't already donated, please join us in supporting Special Olympics and programs like this one that are so important for those with special needs. This page will be available until the end of the year for donations.
As always, we really appreciate your generosity! Thanks, Paul Jeris and Family
