Welcome to My Personal Page
Thanks for visiting my personal page for the 2019 CycleAbility Challenge.
We’re down to the wire for this year’s CycleAbility Challenge! This year's ride will take place this coming weekend (September 21/22). We will be riding a similar route as last year, from the Goldens Bridge Train Station Parking Lot (in Westchester) to Copake, New York and then returning on Sunday to Goldens Bridge. Approximately 85 miles each way.
Last year’s ride was a great success! This is thanks to our many donors and sponsors, on whom I hope I can continue to depend on to support my effort! Last year with only 8 riders, we raised over $41,000 for Special Olympics programs.
These programs provide the Special Olympics athletes, like my daughter, with opportunity to play and compete in the sports they love. More importantly, the programs give these athletes a feeling of self-worth, accomplishment, and camaraderie. Local communities and school districts don’t always have sports programs for those with physical and development disabilities. Your donations are helping to fill that important gap.
Importantly, as a sponsor and board member, I want to be sure that the donor’s hard-earned money is going directly to programs for the athletes and not “ride expenses”. The ride expenses last year were kept to only $1,900 which was more than covered by the event sponsorship. (Thank you sponsors!) The net result is that 100% of your donation, along with the donations of many others, will all go toward programs for the athletes!
Rebecca is in her final year of high school. She will age out as she turns 21 in May. She continues to love sports! I coach her on Saturdays with her teammates in AYSO VIP soccer. She bowls regularly, enjoys playing on three seasonal teams through the school year (modified floor hockey, basketball, and indoor soccer). Next year she will enter an adult day program wherein they will continue to work with Rebecca on job training and life skills.
We continue to hope for increased ridership, so if you are interested or know a cyclist looking for a challenge as well as a terrific time, please let them know about the CycleAbility Challenge! It’s a great experience and it is something that you will never forget! The personal satisfaction of completing the ride along with knowing how much the athletes appreciate what the ride does for them, is truly priceless.
Please join us in supporting Special Olympics and its many programs that support individuals with developmental and physical disabilities. As always, we really appreciate your generosity! Thanks, Paul Jeris and Family
