We are so very proud to announce that Paul Asaro, Special Olympics NY Hudson Valley Athlete and past CycleAbility Cyclist, will be going to the 2019 World Summer Games in Abu Dhabi in March! LETR (Law Enforcment Torch Run©)
Since 1987, law enforcement officers from around the world have participated in the Final Leg of the Law Enforcement Torch Run prior to the Special Olympics World Summer and Winter Games. The tradition of the Final Leg Torch Run is for law enforcement officers representing their country, state and Torch Run Program, to act as “Guardians of the Flame” and carry the Special Olympics Torch and "Flame of Hope" to the Opening Ceremonies of the Special Olympics World Games.
The Olympic flame symbolizes the light of spirit, knowledge and life. With identical power and majesty, the Special Olympics "Flame of Hope," in the entrusted care of the law enforcement community, symbolizes the courage and celebration of diversity that the Special Olympics movement represents.
Congratulations Paul, Alyse and Jimmy!
Paul also would like to do his part and help raise money for himself and his fellow Athletes for the games. Since we have decided to take off the 25 mile route this year (this is what he registered for), he is keeping the link open in hopes that someone will support him, Alyse and Jimmy on this wonderful, once in a lifetime experience to Abu Dhabi. Any donation is greatly appreciated!
A message from Paul:
"Hi, I’m Paul Asaro. I rode with the CycleAbility Challenge in 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011 as a special Olympian. I coach cycling, and track and field for the Hudson Valley Special Olympics. I am also the Athlete Ambassador for Special Olympics NY.
How exciting it for us to be going to Abu Dhabi and we are so honored! I have FUNraised for this event and encourage you all to do the same.
Will you please support us?
It is such a wonderful opportunity for all of us.
Go Team USA!"
