This event is an opportunity that has presented itself so I can participate in a larger than me fundraiser. As such, I am joining a team of co-workers to fundraise for the Special Olympics of New York which will further opportunities of those with physical and intellectual disabilities participate in the sports they love.
Now, some of you may be asking, "why would you do this?" Well it's simple, this seemed like the perfect fundraiser for me as sports have always been a part of my life. While these days hockey (Go Fish!) and co-ed softball (Honey Badgers Don't Care!) run my life, all sports have always presented me with experiences in life I'll never forget. For those of you who don't know, I met my wife because of joining a bowling team! That team I'll "Never Forget" for sure.
But really this goes back to when I was a young kid and remembering the dream of a championship while playing street hockey or the bottom of the 9th, 2 outs, bases loaded, down by three, imaginary scenario while playing baseball in some field with friends. Sports provide a team comradarie that has always been a driving force in my life and this fundraising opportunity goes to provide those same dreams to individuals with physical and intellectual disabilities each day. As a result, I couldn't say no to get involved.
So with all of that being said, I want to ask you to donate to this cause (and my own personal suffering) as I brave the icy waters in February to raise money so another kid can dream of their OT winner in game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals! Anything you can donate is appreciated and I promise for those who donate, I will be filming all of this on my GoPro for your amusement after the fact!
Thank you again and Go Flyers!!
