Giving Everyone a Chance to Play

Hi everyone,

My name is Ryan Kidd, and I'm a 7th grader at William G. Houston Middle School.

I'm raising money for Special Olympics New York because I believe that everyone deserves a chance to play sports and be part of a team, no matter what. Our middle school doesn’t have a Unified Sports program yet, where kids with and without disabilities can play together, and I really want to help change that.

This is personal for me, too.

I was born with a brain defect. When I was a baby, doctors told my family I might never walk or even talk. But I beat those odds.

I know I was lucky, and now I want to give an opportunity to kids who weren't as lucky as me.

While I love competition, this is about something bigger. It’s about making sure every kid, whether they have a disability or not, can enjoy something they love and feel what it’s like to be on a team.
